About the studio

A small studio with one root.

Ginger grows from a rhizome: one root that keeps sending up new shoots. That's how we work too.

Ginger Media is a small independent studio from Belgium. Most of what we make is our own: we build products, put them live and keep running them, six of them today, read and used in 12 languages.

The portfolio is deliberately varied. There's Nomad Watch, a guide to living abroad; PropSignal, a tool for finding property deals; Timeless Myths, a mythology library; Roost, a price comparison for developer services; and a few smaller sites we're fond of. What connects them is the root: the same small team and the same tools.

Who's behind it

Ginger Media was founded in 2021 by Rutger De Maeyer, who still runs it day to day, working across product, design and engineering. More and more of that work happens alongside AI agents, which is also why we build OpenCompany.

Our tools for developers, starting with Roost, are being gathered under a new label, Bowerbird, which hasn't launched yet.

You can find Rutger on GitHub, or write to us at hello@gingermedia.biz.

The root system

What it all runs on.

01 Fast websites
Most of our sites are simple pages served from close to the reader, so they load quickly anywhere. Timeless Myths, MyTriops, Roost and this site work this way.
02 Web apps
Products with accounts, alerts and payments, like Nomad Watch and PropSignal, are full web applications we build and host ourselves.
03 Tools
Small, sturdy programs for the jobs behind the scenes, like the engine that builds Roost.
04 Hosting
Our own servers. Every change is tested before it goes out and checked on the live site after, and undone automatically if something breaks.
